London is famous world-wide as a shopping destination, and when you stay at the Mandeville Hotel London you’ll quickly find out why. Here are some of the most popular places to enjoy a little ‘retail therapy’ in this busy city:

Bond Street
This is probably the best shopping street in the world. Old Bond Street and New Bond Street together make up what is called Bond Street. The shops here are said to have exclusivity. You can find many brands like Gianni Versace, Calvin Klein and others. This street is said to have the most stylish and elegant shops. This is a dream place for any shopper.

When people think of London they think of the Royal family, the Parliamentary government, and years old tradition. London certainly is a city of royalty, so on your next visit to the Mandeville Hotel London, be sure to stop by these must-see attractions for their history, their beauty, and their regal stature.

The Tower of London is almost a thousand years old and is home to the crown jewels. Make sure to plan ahead and get tickets to the Ceremony of the Keys, a 700 year long tradition of locking up the Tower at night. Tickets are free but you’ll need to get them 6-8 weeks in advance. Because the Tower of London is a hot tourist spot, lines can be quite long. Here’s a tip: buy your tickets at any Tower Hill tube station rather than at the Tower itself. With your tickets in hand you can bypass the line and walk right in.

Buckingham Palace is probably London’s most famous building, and still a working Palace and home to the Queen. If you go in the summer months when the Queen is in Scotland you can get a tour of the staterooms. Buckingham Palace is also where the famous “Changing of the Guards” takes place. You can see this every day at 11:30am.

Mandeville Hotel London Markets

November 9th, 2011

Markets are an important part of everyday life in London – here is where produce is sold, goods are bartered and bargains are made. There are several markets scattered all over the city, each specialising in different wares. Here’s a guide to the main markets you might want to visit during your stay at the Mandeville Hotel London:

Bermondsey
Address: Bermondsey Square on Tower Bridge Road
Trading: 04.00 to 12.00 daily
Description: One of London’s oldest markets, Bermondsey is famous as a haunt of thieves, due to an ancient ruling (which, incredibly was only recently abolished) stating that the origin of goods sold before sunrise could not be brought under suspicion, therefore allowing stolen goods to be traded freely and without question. For this reason, the market has traditionally started very early in the morning. Get there early to find the best antiques.

Portobello Road
Address: Portobello Road, Notting Hill
Trading: Saturdays, 06.00 to 16.00
Description: This area was a popular hippy hang-out in the 1960s and still has a bohemian feel today. The Saturday market stretches the whole length of the road and sells antiques and bric-a-brac as well as fruit and vegetables. The road itself is lined with antique shops, so it’s worth a visit any day of the week.

Mandeville Hotel London Getting Around

October 10th, 2011

If you’ve never been to London before then you may find the thought of getting around the city somewhat daunting during your first stay at the Mandeville Hotel London. With the population of Greater London estimated at more than 7 million people, this is a bustling city on a grand scale.

So really, what is the best way to get around the British capital?

Fortunately, there are a good number of options available. The London Underground, for example, is the oldest underground mass transit system in Europe and consists of some 275 stations on 12 separate lines. The stations are very close together, and central London in particular is very well covered with 63 stations.

There are Underground (or “Tube”, as it’s known locally) maps at all stations and on platforms. Each of the Underground lines has a different color, making the maps easy to read so that tourists can find their way around easily.

In addition to being color-coded, the Underground map is also

Mandeville Hotel London for Tourists

October 1st, 2011

London is the capital of the United Kingdom, and this amazing city is packed with history and art, parks and beauty. Here are some of many places you should visit during your stay at the Mandeville Hotel London.

1. The British Museum has millions of items and artifacts to peruse. What started as Sir Hans Sloan’s collection of 71,000 items in 1753 has blossomed into one of the biggest storehouses of ancient artifacts in the world. Best of all, admission to this venerable museum remains free of charge.

2. Saint Paul’s Cathedral is one of Great Britain’s most beautiful spiritual centers. Although it is a historic building (rebuilt in 1666 after the Great London Fire), it is still home to modern weddings and funerals. Living members of British royalty and national leaders have held ceremonies there.

3. The Tower of London is a fascinating step back into time. Here, you can be horrified by the dungeons and you can marvel at the Queen’s Jewels. Try not to imagine too much of the Tower’s deadly history though, or you might have nightmares.

Fun things to do when you stay at the Mandeville Hotel London?

August 13th, 2011

Sites you won’t want to miss when you stay at the Mandeville Hotel London

When you’re ready to leave your comfortable rooms at the Mandeville Hotel London, you’ll find that the Marylebone section of London is full of fun activities. Lying north of the glossy Selfridges department store and south of Regent’s Park, Marylebone is an affluent, residential district of elegant white terraced Georgian and Edwardian townhouses, many of which are still single-family homes.

Why not start with a visit to the Wallace Collection, a national museum in a historic London town house? The collection features 25 galleries with unsurpassed displays of French 18th century painting, furniture, and porcelain ,with superb Old Master paintings and a world class armory.

The Wallace Collection’s works of art were amassed during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries by the first four Marquesses of Hertford and by Sir Richard Wallace, the son of the 4th Marquess. The Collection was bequeathed to the British nation in 1897 by Sir Richard’s widow, Lady Wallace, and is now displayed at Hertford House, the main London townhouse of the Wallace’s.

Some of the best known items in the Wallace Collection are its paintings by artists such as Titian, Rembrandt, Hals, and Velázquez. The Collection is also noted for its superb collections of eighteenth-century French paintings, porcelain, furniture and gold boxes, which probably the best to be found anywhere outside France.

But that’s only a small part of the many treasures on display here. There are also splendid medieval and Renaissance objects, including Limoges enamels, majolica, glass and bronzes. And the arms and armory collection is the finest in Britain and includes first-class items from both Europe and the Orient.
